Fifth Star [Voice: Chinese]

...

WHAT MANNER OF SORCERY WAS THAT?!?

[identity profile] nummeh-souls.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Uh... everything okay over there, Tir?

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
The pictures! The moving, talking pictures!

[identity profile] nummeh-souls.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's-... Well, it's not exactly normal.

You've probably never seen a television set before, have you?

It's... Uh... how to dumb this down a bit. It's a box with a glass screen, powered by electricity and metal components working behind it to produce a picture. It can pick up a signal, usually through a cable, and the television shows you the moving pictures being sent out by that signal.

This one was a news broadcast. Those are kind of boring.

[voice; english]

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's.....

THAT'S AMAZING!

Are their more of these...brawww...broadcasts?

[voice; english]

[identity profile] nummeh-souls.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Taken aback] ...

Uh... maa...

Maybe not in this world. This was the first time I've seen the broken television in our apartment work like... well... it worked. But it shouldn't have. There's little to no electricity in the building to power it. So... it doesn't make that much sense.

Other places? Yeah, I guess. Talk shows, infomercials, soap operas... Lots of different stuff.

[voice; english]

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Mm...Maybe we could make our own system for it!

[voice; english]

[identity profile] nummeh-souls.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe.

If the right parts can be found, but... that can be said for a lot of the stuff around here.

...Heh. You're really getting into this, aren't you?

[voice; english]

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
Are you kidding? This is the most amazing thing I've seen EVER!

[voice; english]

[identity profile] nummeh-souls.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
[He just laughs. Tir, you're just too much for him!]

All right, all right. If you're really that set on this, then look out for a young girl with bluish-green hair and a knack for mechanics. She's a genius when it comes to this stuff, and a pretty cool friend of mine.

Take a stab at asking her about it sometime, and see what happens.

[voice; english]

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Miss Bulma? I'll be sure to do just that!

[identity profile] worldrestorer.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
It was a television broadcast... that other guy explained it pretty well already.

I guess we'll have to see if there will be more of these things! It's kind of weird that it was on the televisions, though. You'd think if they wanted to reach people, these communicators would be easier!

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest, these machines didn't seem so strange. The Blinking Mirror in my own world was not so different, though without the typewriter attached. Or the audio recorder. These things aren't so strange to me as...well...THAT.

That was AMAZING.

[identity profile] worldrestorer.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think the most amazing thing is that it happened even when the television wasn't plugged in. Now that is something else.

... I wonder if they're going to put on any game shows...

[identity profile] worldrestorer.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
Er... it's one of those broadcast things. It's set up so that you're on a set-- where all the recording is done-- and you're... playing some kind of game, usually for a lot of publicity or a lot of prizes. They're kind of fun, but there are some pretty bad ones, and I don't think I want to know what Discedo's idea of 'fun' is.

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
...That sounds incredible!

[identity profile] worldrestorer.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
You probably have things from your world we'd call incredible, too.

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not denying that...I mean, I've seen some marvels of engineering produced by the Dwarves. But these things...this entire WORLD is just so full of wonder to me!

[identity profile] worldrestorer.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
Then that's a good thing, isn't it?

Even as run-down as it is, it's still got some of its shine left.

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That would seem to be the key of survival.

[VOICE, accented Chinese]

[identity profile] neverblind.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you talking about the news that was broadcast?

[VOICE, Chinese]

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The broadcast itself. I'd never seen such a thing.

[VOICE, Chinese]

[identity profile] neverblind.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
No, I haven't really either...though I suppose the cinemas and radio are close enough to it.

[VOICE, Chinese]

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
...Cinemas? Radio?

Re: [VOICE, Chinese]

[identity profile] neverblind.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sorry! ...Well, I suppose if you've seen the television, it shouldn't be hard to explain those...

From what I understand, television is like the cinema, except it has sound and is broadcast. For films they have the reel with all the images on a projector, which makes each picture appear on the screen. It does it so quickly that it looks like the pictures are moving!

And radio, well...instead of an image being broadcast, it's just sound. It's more simplistic.

I suppose if there's a way to combine the two, you'd end up with television. I'm not certain though--it's not like I've ever made a radio.

[VOICE, Chinese]

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
It all sounds so amazing...

Re: [VOICE, Chinese]

[identity profile] neverblind.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
What about your world? What is it like?

[VOICE, Chinese]

[identity profile] tenkai-soul.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well erm....that's a bit complicated. Could you be more specific?

[VOICE, Chinese--italics for muttered English.]

[identity profile] neverblind.livejournal.com 2008-11-15 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
How do you communicate? I suppose, without modern technology-- That's all done in person?
