Kazuki, is it alright if Miss Viki stays with us? She's an old friend of mine, one I've served in two wars with. I can vouch for her being a good person. She may seem a bit strange, but... I'd rather keep her close by, if it's all the same to you.

Her name was Cayden. She wasn't from a noble house, but she still managed to make her way into the highest ranks as a subordinate of my father's former General, and my master, Kai. Both her and my father were Kai's closest fellows, particularly during the wars that lead to Barbarosa Rugner's ascension to the throne of the empire...

She was so amazing, using Kai's staff fighting skills perfectly, that they said not a single blade could ever touch her. She often left battles completely unscathed. Master Kai recognized that she might have even surpassed him in ability... he was going to retire and name her the new General of his unit. My father supported this, and even went so far as to marry her so that she could have a noble name, allowing the Emperor to see her as a valid successor...

...Shortly after my birth though, we learned, rather harshly, what could fall my mother. She contracted a strange illness, one not even the Holy Doctor, Lukien, could fine a working cure for. She fought as hard as she could, but...
