Tir had killed Teo with the Souleater Rune during the war, and his tremendous guilt over this was one of the major shifting points of his character in the game. That was when he decided he would distance himself from others in fear of destroying them. So yeah, he's a bit out of sorts. Also, he's slowly turning into a Tir-sicle outside Latimir in one of the alleyways ))
