The Balance of Life and Death

You know, this came up in a conversation with Prydain. And apparently Raphael had the same idea. But... You know, we really should pay tribute to our own memories. People that have come and gone... and people who are with us right now. We need a way to say to future generations, even after all of this is over, that "we were here".

What I'm suggesting, Discedo, and I'm sure Raphael had the same idea is... we make a memorial. And on that memorial we start putting names. Names we remember from the past, names of people here now. A standing, timeless statement that we mattered to someone else in this world. That what we've done here so far was not in vain and that... and that memory really is magic.

Alright, now that I've done some thinking, I realize there's something I should say...

When I left the Republic and refused its Presidency, it was because of my Rune. But seems to be only what I told myself. In reality, it was something a lot more difficult to define, but something I am understanding now...

My dedication isn't to any particular group or nation, but rather to individuals. That was part of the reason I lead the Liberation Army to begin with. I believe in the spirit of a person. Every single one of the 108 Stars of Destiny mattered to me on a level that goes beyond any officiated thing. And it applies here as well.

As of today, I am retiring from the Police Force. I have already dropped off any equipment to that effect at the police station. You'll find those effects in a fur bag. You can keep the bag to. It's nice.

I will do what I can for the individuals here... and I will do so on my own terms.

I guess this place has been really testy lately. The case I'm working on is a difficult one. Add to that a lot of the hardship lately...

I just want everyone out there to remember that hope still exist. There is a victory to be had. The town meeting helped us all reassess our priorities... We'll be alright. We just have to beat this like everything else, right? I know we can do it. We always have. You just have to have faith in your talents and the talents of your fellow man. There's nothing we cannot accomplish when we work together... I should know. In my world, I saw what the achievements of 108 individuals working together for a joint cause could be.

Huh... my hand is feeling better. I still need to see about a prosthetic for the missing one, though. Using Heaven's Fang with one hand is proving to be far more difficult than I imagined in actual combat. Frustrating, but... heh, I guess this is part of my penance. Ah well...

The very fact you would call a personal conflict between individuals "war" is almost insulting to people who are actually veterens and not just manifestations of some nationality.

POLICE FORCE AND ANY ABLE VOLUNTEERS, LISTEN UP!

I have a plan. If we intend to live through this, I suggest you all listen.

I need pact made units at the East, West, and Northern points of town, as well as a unit at the Clinic. Our job is going to be ensuring a path is cleared for any injured and/or non combatants. Just because everyone is being forced to fight doesn't mean everyone can, so it's our job to insure these people are safe.

Sir Yamcha and I will head up the South Unit, heading directly through the larger concentration up towards the High School. From there we will create a command point as well as a guard against floods from the South.

Got that? Alright, here's the next part.

I need units for EACH RESIDENTIAL AREA. That INCLUDES Gohl. They will act as defense as well as an initial escort for injured and/or non combatants. It's the best way we can ensure people make it to the clinic and high school safely.

The enemy doesn't have a particular origin point, but I DO suspect they have a commander. And I intend to find that person. Any information that can be provided to this effect is needed, as once his identity is found out, I'll take my unit as well as two others to apprehend this person and put an end to this nonsense.

Alright...we can't rest now! We've still got a lot of people unaccounted for.

Minato, Leni, anyone else who will volunteer, we need to make a running search for people who haven't been able to post their position. The fires are still burning in many places, so we have to be careful, but there's still a lot more to do.

LET'S MOVE OUT!

I'm not going to sit about and wait. What we need right now is a strategy. That's, what, three men? Four? Only two of them have abilities of any kind.

I need volunteers. Depending on what skills we can gather, we can form a proper offense and bring these monsters to justice. I have a few idea, but I NEED help with them.
